May 20th Watergate Bay Newquay The competitors were greeted in the morning by 4ft cross-shore conditions with very few lulls creating a challenging paddle out between waves. Despite this there were some powerful performances from Richard Hewitt, Richard Smith, Duncan Jones and Scott Powell all of who made it to the men's open final. Richard Hewitt also surfed against Mark Venn, and Mathew Deaves in the final of the masters event. Unfortunately Jody Troth was the only women to surf and the draw placed her in the toughest heat of the day when she was required to surf against Richard Hewitt and Richard Smith both of who took home the top prizes. Special thanks to Paul Jefferies and the all those at the English Surfing Federation for there hard work and cooperation in organising the kneeboard event. Also, thanks to the head judge Ben Farwagi for his excellent work and for setting such high standards. |
