BKC Contests: Club Comp April 2004

The club has had a slight change of direction recently deciding to hold fun competitions instead of gatherings, the first of which has just been held. So far the change seems to be a good one with the day being well attended 15 kneelos entered the contest and a couple more came along to watch and surf nearby. The new format gave the day more of a focus and allowed people a chance to chat between heats and watch each other surf.
The swell was pretty good ranging from 4' to 6' with SSE winds holding it up nicely you could say perfect conditions, although at the beach we choose to surf things could have done with being a little smaller. Its an exposed beach which at 6' gets very rippy and provides a paddle out that would give Laird Hamilton a workout.
The waves provided a solid platform for some good surfing and from round two things became quite even, with the conditions and wave selection strongly influencing who got through. By the time the final came around the tide was pushing off low and with the rips raging and the surf still pumping through the contestants ended up on two seperate peaks. This combined with the glare from the sun and the distance they were from the beach made judging impossible leaving the contest a four way draw and the results table looking pretty even.

Points System

First place gets 1000 points then 70 points are deducted for each place there after. At the end of the 5 contests you will be able to scratch your 2 lowest scores. This will allow kneelos who have to travel along way the option to miss a couple of contests without putting themselves out of the running. If 1 contest ends up being cancelled and we only run 4 then you will only be able to scratch your lowest result.
